Occasionally CCMU graduates, faculty members, and students find themselves in the news or media discussing pressing OM topics and issues or publishing articles related to traditional Chinese medicine. We are interested in what our graduates are doing (and your classmates and schoolmates would be interested also). Please let us know if you appear in any articles or on TV, or publish anything on OM.
2019

- CCMU student Brittney Chowning had an article titled “Making the Case for Acupuncture Instead of Opiates,” published in the January 2016 issue of Colorado Acupuncturist.
- CCTV America did a news story about using Acupuncture as Anesthesia, which features CCMU faculty member Dayong Hou, CCMU graduates/faculty members Judy Lemieux (03), Joseph Brady (06) and Sharon Coyner (10), and CCMU students Isaac White, Steven Ljungberg, Jina Pak, Guy Ciulla, Amy Long, and Julienne Gienger.
2015
- CCMU grad Donna Henderson (01), had an article titled “Teaching Qi Gong to Children,” published in the September 2015 issue of Acupuncture Today.
- CCMU grad Tamara Hutchins (03) was featured in a Fox31 Denver News story about Facial Acupuncture called ‘Zen Redhead Acupuncture’ on July 14, 2015.
- CCMU grad Kristen Horner-Warren (03) wrote a blog in May 2015 on “What you must know before you try dry needling.”

2013
- CCMU grad Martha Lucas (01) had articles published in Acupuncture Today; “Pulse Balancing Invoke Mystical-Type Experiences” (September 2013), and “Antibiotic Resistance: Traditional Chinese Medicine Can Prevent Epidemics” (October 2013).
- CCMU grad Fred Jennes (97) had a book review “Chinese Herbal Medicine: The Formulas of Dr. John H.F. Shen” in the Fall 2013 issue of The American Acupuncturist.
- CCMU grads MK Christian (96), Nancy Nguyen (06), and Caitlin Dilli (13), will soon be published authors. They participated in the “sham acupuncture” research study conducted by the Department of Neurology and the Center for Integrative Medicine, University of Colorado Hospital. They co-authored the article “Does Prior Acupuncture Exposure Affect Perception of Blinded Real or Sham Acupuncture?” to be published in the British Medical Journal: Acupuncture in Medicine. The study was supported by the Michael J. Fox Foundation, the National Institutes of Health/Colorado Clinical and Transitional Sciences Institute KL2 Program, and the Colorado School of TCM. CCMU students Anh Tran, Rebecca Wilson, Erika Holmes, and Mathew Kester (all now graduated), also assisted the project.

- CCMU grad Martha Lucas (01) had articles published in Acupuncture Today, “Our Abdominal Brain and Its Relationship to the Pulses” (January 2013); and “Treating the Spirit via the Kidney Meridian” (March 2013).

- CCMU grad Spencer Ames (09) was mentioned in an article in the March 2013, North American Journal of Oriental Medicine, about him setting-up a clinic in Tanzania, as part of the Moxafrica research.

- CCMU grad Rory Oetomo (03) was interviewed on a radio show on KLTT in October 2011.
- CCMU grad Stacey Robertson (06) appeared on Channel 9 News demonstrating cosmetic acupuncture.
- CCMU grad Martha Lucas (01) had articles published in Acupuncture Today, “Food for Thought About Beauty, Inside and Out” (January 2011); and “Hold the Needles: New Anti-Aging Treatments” (March 2011); and “Make Aging a Pleasant Experience by Eliminating the Effects of Stress” (May 2011).

- CCMU grad (98) and Clinic Director Parago Jones was quoted in an April 2, 2011 Dailyfinance.com article titled “As Medical Costs Rise, More Americans Turn to Acupuncture.”
2010
- CCMU grad MK Christian (96) is part of a research study at The Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Colorado Hospital to investigate if acupuncture can relieve fatigue associated with Parkinson’s disease. The study is being funded by a grant from the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. CCMU Faculty member Ban Wong and guest faculty member Daisy Dong are also participating in the study. The study was featured in an article titled “One Piece of the Puzzle” published in the November 2010 issue of UCH Insider.
- CCMU grad Martha Lucas (01) had two articles published in Acupuncture Today, “The Pulse of Aging” (September 2010) and “Prevention is the Real Anti-Aging” (November 2010).
- Asian Avenue published an article about the CCMU 20-year celebration in their April 2010 issue.
- CCMU grad Gail Smithson (95) and his wife Melanie appeared on Channel 9, Colorado & Company, 7/29/10, to promote their clinic.

- CCMU grad Rita Stanford (94) had a case report “Recurrent Miscarriage Syndrome Treated with Acupuncture and an Allergy Elimination/ Desensitization Technique” published in Alternative Therapies, Sept/Oct 2009.
- CCMU grad Fred Jennes (97) had an article “Cognitive Error in Oriental Medicine: How to Avoid It; Is It Necessary?” published in The American Acupuncturist, Fall 2009.
- CCMU grad Martha Lucas (01) is the Chair of the AAC Research Committee. She had an article “Pulse Diagnosis: Are We Allowing It to Become a Lost Art?” published in Acupuncture Today (August 2009) and “Examining the Flow of Qi Through the Organ Systems” (December 2009); also an article “TCM Food Therapy” published in The Colorado Acupuncturist, October 2009.
- CCMU grad Rory Oetomo (03) appeared on CBS Channel 4 News on August 19, 2009.
- CCMU grad Martha Lucas (01) had an article in The Colorado Acupuncturist, July 2009, titled “Are We Healthy Practitioners?”

- CCMU grad Fred Jennes (97) and CCMU faculty member is now on the AAAOM Editorial Board and had a book review on The Tao of Fertility published in The American Acupuncturist, Fall 2008.
- CCMU grad Gail Smithson (97) was featured in an article in Natural Awakenings, October 2008.
- CCMU grad Sabrina Maiden (00) was featured in an article in Natural Awakenings, December 2008.
- CCMU grad Martha Lucas (01) had an article in the October 2008 issue of the AAC Newsletter, The Colorado Acupuncturist, titled “Oriental Medicine: The True Anti-Aging Medicine”; and an article published in Acupuncture Today titled “Oriental Medicine: Traditional or Not?” (September 2008).
- CCMU grad Terry Fox (06) had an article in the October 2008 issue of the AAC Newsletter, The Colorado Acupuncturist, titled “Volunteering to Promote Acupuncture.”
- CCMU grad Joe Wollen had articles titled “The Left and Right Brain Frustrations of TCM School” (May 2008), and “Gaining Confidence as a Student” (August 2008), both published in Acupuncture Today, in the Student Corner section.
- CCMU faculty member Caylor Wadlington and faculty member Daniel Hudson were quoted in an article from Inside, July 2008, titled “Oxygen at Altitude.” The article was about an altitude adjustment formula they developed.
- CCMU grad and President of the AAC, Nancy Billelo (98) was quoted during the Channel 4 segment on Physical Therapists using dry needling.
- CCMU grad Martha Lucas (01) had an article in the AAC Newsletter, The Colorado Acupuncturist, titled “What’s in a Name?”
- CCMU grad Denise Ellinger (01) had an article in the AAC Newsletter, The Colorado Acupuncturist, titled “The Gold Mine of Facial Diagnosis.”
- CCMU grad Scot Somes (06) appeared in a Denver Post article titled “Eastern Medicine Wins Over Athletes.”
- CCMU grad Samhitta Jones (98) was written up in a 3-page article in the Boulder Weekly for a clinic she runs called the Community Acupuncture Clinic, calling it “Boulder’s Best Kept Secret”. Radio station KGNU had an interview with her about the clinic. The Boulder Daily Camera had a write-up on her and her partner, Mary Saunders, in the fitness section, about the affordable ($20-$45) clinic in an open space setting. She says any student who would like to get information on how to run a community clinic should contact her at 303-447-0443. She also graduated from SWAC Boulder with her MSOM degree, but says “CCMU is her favorite”.
- CCMU grad Karen Kurtak (01) was featured in a February 2008 New York Times, Fashion & Style section article titled “A Traditional Therapy Finds Modern Uses.” The article was about auricular therapy and the use of ear seeds (Vaccaria – Wang Bu Liu Xing) for stop smoking treatments, other addictions, and pain.
- CCMU grad Joe Wollen had articles titled “The Importance of Finding/Remembering a Mentor” (February 2008), and “Experiencing Family” (November 2008), both published in Acupuncture Today, in the Student Corner section.
2007
- CCMU grad Martha Lucas (01), was featured in a December 2007 New York Times, Style section article titled “Hold the Chemicals, Bring on the Needles.” The article was about the rising interest in cosmetic acupuncture.
- CCMU grad Martha Lucas (01) and Denise Ellinger (01) had an article published in Acupuncture Today titled “Cosmetic Acupuncture and Liability Insurance Coverage” (October 2006).
